Tame Impala’s magnum opus, “Currents” captured the absolute limits technology could afford a single musician's creative vision. Kevin Parker worked obsessively on the project in his home studio, more like an EDM producer than a traditional musician, recording, re-recording, looping, texturing, layering, and scraping it all and starting over. This process would go on in a seemingly unending hyper-fixation where Parker isolated himself from the world for days at a time. Throughout his career, Parker‘s audience grew from stoner dudes in the early 2010s to being the soundtrack of every basic white girl’s witchy-era as captured on the hit app, Tik Tok. His reach has extended so far that it wouldn’t be a stretch to call him one of the most influential indie artists of the decade.
