"I've been goin through some shit/ I guess I'm getting used to it/" croon the cousins on their single "Escape From Babylon" and ain't that the truth. Sing Me a Lullaby, My Sweet Temptation" is Suicideboys' third studio album, and was released by their own record label, G*59 Records. The album is full of melancholic beats, and depressed rebellion. The album reached #7 on Billboard 200, reflecting the New Orleanians' cult following. "This world fucked up and hard enough to just exist in," but maybe its a little bit easier with people that recognize that and turn the pain into art.
Known as $uicideboy$, Suicideboys, and $B, the hip hop duo has the same propensity for aliases as it's members, cousins Scrim (Scott Anthony Arceneaux Jr.) and Ruby da Cherry (Aristos Norman Petrou). With a sound that's hard to pin to a single genre, they've been described as hip hop, trap metal, and punk rap. What they undeniably are is from New Orleans. (They even used to perform in Mushroom Records!) Their accents and experiences flood their lyrics, covering depression, addiction, anti establishment sentiments, and most importantly, suicidal ideation. Suicidal ideation has always been entrenched in the band. The duo formed in 2014 in tandem with a suicide pact. Arceneaux explained in 2017 to Mass Appeal, "it was pretty much like cutting the hand, bleeding, and making a pact that there's no plan B, that if this doesn't work out by the time we're 30, I'm blowing my head off." Arceneaux was 25 at the time, Petrou 24, and they safely reached stardom within the time limit. Considered the upper-crust of the underground rap scene, the duo's song "... And to Those I Love, Thanks for Sticking Around" went RIAA platinum in 2021.
