Widely credited for putting the grunge-rock genre into the eye of the mainstream media, Soundgarden created a legacy that will likely withstand the test of time. Their experimental sound and techniques really broke through a lot of musical barriers that existed before their time. Although the band officially disbanded in 2018, the group has since collaborated on small projects together, including a reunion tribute show in 2019. After the death of singer and drummer Chris Cornell, the band faced a tumultuous and ongoing legal battle with Cornell's widow who has made it nearly impossible for Soundgarden to release their last collaborative efforts and even kept them from using the band's name, but tensions have seemed to have started to ease between the two parties.
