Sandro Botticelli was born in Florence in the 15th century but wouldn't reach popularity until posthumously in the late 19th century with the rise of the Pre-Raphaelite art movement. His work is now largely considered to be an irreplaceable piece of Italian artistic evolution, existing somewhere near the beginning of the Renaissance and more Gothic-inspired movements that predated it.
Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" is one of his most famous works of art, as well as one of the most classically referenced paintings of the goddess Venus herself.
