Night of the Living Dead is the first zombie horror film in a franchise created by George A. Romero. The movie was released in 1968 and was one of the first modern zombie movies created by disassociating the monsters from Vodou and by using contemporary settings. Romero's zombie franchise is also full of social commentary touching on issues of racism to consumerism.
