The New York Dolls were a boundary-pushing musical group hailing out of New York City in 1971. Known for their flamboyance and originality, The New York Dolls were often described as proto-punk and are credited with introducing new sounds and influences to the rock scene. They were wildly overlooked and underrated at the time of their debut, but fans and critics alike have applauded their unique ability to weave together various genres of rock cohesively. Over the years the group faced many challenges, and eventually disbanded after five years only to reunite over thirty years later in 2004 for a temporary reunion hosted by Morrissey.
