If you want an entry into the world of hardcore or just to Minor Threat, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better record. Released in 1989, six years after the band’s break-up, it is remembered as one of the best hardcore albums of the ‘80s. Just like it says on the can, this CD includes Minor Threat’s complete discography pulling from their three EPs, their sole studio album “Out of Step” and other tracks from the “Flex Your Head” compilation.
If a band’s worth is decided by how young they were when they changed the world, then Minor Threat would be the best band ever. Despite their short life span, Minor Threat remains one of the most influential hardcore bands of all time, right up there with Black Flag and Bad Brains. Their music would lead to emotional hardcore, aka Emo and their song “Straight Edge” would inspire an anti-substance movement within the punk scene. It’s hard to imagine anyone tattooing the shit I was saying at 18-years-old on to their body but that’s been vocalist Ian Mackaye’s reality his whole life, thanks to the influence of Minor Threat.
