Joan Jett is an American rock musician from Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. Born in 1958, she picked up a guitar at the age of 13 and changed the course of rock history forever. Just a few years later, at 16, she would co-found the all-girl rock group The Runaways with the drummer Sandy West. The Runaways took the music world by storm with their abrasive sound and anarchist lyrics- showing that girls could rock out just as hard as the boys. She would later go on to create the group Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, releasing over ten albums and winning countless awards throughout her career.
