Live sessions recording of the piano prince himself, James Booker, playing lively covers like Lieber-Stoller’s “Hound Dog,” Roy Byrd’s “Professor Longhair Medley: Bald Head/Tipitina,” and Fats Domino’s “One For The Highway.” It was recorded near the end of his life when he was at the top of his game. Accompanying Booker were New Orleans musicians Alvin “Red” Tyler on tenor saxophone, James Singleton on bass, and Johnny Vidacovich on drums. At the time of the recording, Booker was the house pianist for The Maple Leaf and struggled with addiction. The recording was supposed to happen over three days but after two days of flops, Booker stepped it up and recorded the 12-track album in four hours.
