Thebe Neruda Kgositsile, more commonly known as Earl Sweatshirt, is one of the most acclaimed up and coming rappers of his generation. He started rapping in 7th grade, releasing tracks on MySpace under the name Sly Tendencies. His first album, the self titled "Earl" was released in 2010, largely produced by fellow prodigy Tyler the Creator. in 2011 Earl Sweatshirt seemed to fall off the face of the earth. His rap group hinted that his mom wasn't allowing him to release music. After his return in 2012, he would open up about his absence. His mom sent him to Samoa, to attend a "school" for at risk boys. From Earl's descriptions, this place sounds more like a mix between a psych ward and a prison. He wasn't allowed to use the bathroom unsupervised. His return in 2012 was heralded by features on multiple projects, including on Frank Ocean's "channel ORANGE". He was nominated for a Grammy for his feature on "channel ORANGE". In 2023 his website contained a hyperlink with puzzles hinting to a secret album released under a pseudonym. The album, "Voir Dire" was released for free on August 25 2023.
